The Way Forward for South Africa: Class Struggle and Anarchism

The Way Forward for South Africa:

Class Struggle and Anarchism

by Nkululeko Khubisa (TAAC)

Published in “Tokologo: Newsletter of the Tokologo African Anarchist Collective”, numbers 7/8, November 2017

South Africa is in a mess. That is clear, more than 20 years since the end of apartheid. We have won many things. It was our struggle that beat apartheid laws and the old government. But we are not free yet. Corruption, poverty, job losses, hatred, violence, the apartheid legacy are all part of the mess.

What is the way forward for South Africa? It is struggle by the masses of the people for a better society.

What does that require?

EDUCATE!
The way forward is unity and solidarity, but that means we need knowledge. People need to be mobilised and taught about politics – real politics, not the party system – and this process needs to take place at all levels.

If everybody among the working class and poor could be informed and alert, and

The Cheap Politics that Destroy Our Communities: Conflicts in Sebokeng

by Nonzukizo Mute (TAAC, ZACF)

Published in “Tokologo: Newsletter of the Tokologo African Anarchist Collective”, numbers 7/8, November 2017

Political fighting has destroyed the peace in Sebokeng township in the Vaal. Politicians are using government resources for private purposes, and parties and factions are fighting over which politicians get the most.

WARD 17 SPLITS
There has been no peace in the Emfuleni Local Municipality’s Ward 17 since the August 2016 municipal elections. Ward 17 is a ward in Sebokeng, and consists of Eskom Village, Hostels 1and 2, the Masiza Flats and other places, as well as Zone 20. Emfuleni municipality is part of

No Justice, No Peace: A Year of Struggle

February 1, 2016 / Sifuna Zonke

by Tokologo African Anarchist Collective (TAAC)

Editorial of Tokologo #5/6

460_0___30_0_0_0_0_0_editorialWelcome to the first double issue of tokologo, combining issues 5 and 6. This marks our third year of publishing by the tokologo African Anarchist Collective and its study circles.

2015 has been a turbulent year. On the one side, the horrors of attacks on immigrants and foreigners continue. In April, attacks broke out, mainly in KwaZulu-Natal, spurred directly by Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini’s inflammatory statements. One of the big failures of the 1994 transition was that much of the old Bantustan/ homeland apparatus remained in place, with the continuing power of chiefs and kings. Again, in October, this time spurred by rumours and the taxi associations, there were riots in the Eastern Cape.

West Rand Municipal Workers Fight Wage Cuts

November 26, 2014November 26, 2014 / griffin36

By Mzee (TAAC)West Rand municipal workers

Workers in the Public Safety department of the West Rand District Municipality, Gauteng, are experiencing extremely stressful times. This is mainly due to management’s actions. There have been many cases of resignations and stress-related illnesses – and some workers have been affected badly enough to commit suicide.

Management has continually turned a blind eye to the problems. It is a major employer, as the municipality is a large one, covering mining areas like Carletonville, Khutsong, Krudersdorp, Randfontein and Westdriefontein and rural areas like Magaliesberg and Muldersdrift.

Working Class Livelihoods: Struggle against Each Other, or Revolt against the System?

November 26, 2014November 26, 2014 / griffin36

Boss needs youby Bongani Maponyane (TAAC, ZACF)

Rising inflation means increases in food and petrol prices. Inflation is a global problem, driven partly by conglomerates maximising their profits at the expense of ordinary people. The state plays its role, continually raising prices for services.

The pressure of capitalism has impacted on our lives. It has caused clashes within the working classes, resulting in discrimination and prejudice. Ruling class elites – the political and economic elite – benefit from these struggles between people who compete for scraps from their tables.

EDITORIAL:
Election Circus: Zuma not the problem, the whole system is rotten

2014’s national and provincial election circus saw the ANC retain its big majority. Two opposition parties – DA and EFF – grew; the rest fell sharply. Over 13 million never voted, more than the total who voted for the ANC and far more that voted EFF (1 million) or DA (4 million). Four out of ten youth (18-29 year olds) did not even register.[1]

Tokologo supports the community march on the Merafong municipal offices

October 31, 2014October 31, 2014 / griffin36

Tokologo LogoThe Tokologo African Anarchist Collective supports the protest march held by members of the Khutsong community – where we have active members – to the Merafong municipal offices.

We support the community’s demand for the removal of the long-acting Municipal Manager on the following grounds:

Being implicated in mis-spending of public funds in Westonaria to the tune of R1.5 million, allegedly paid to a Pretoria-based law firm for personal interests. Being implicated in Merafong Municipality mismanaging over R28 million, allegedly for building a website that doesn’t exist
Spending over R50 000 per month for a travel allowance without consulting the supply chain.

”…anarchism does not derive from the abstract reflections of an intellectual or a philosopher, but from the direct struggle of workers against capitalism, from the needs and necessities of the workers, from their aspirations to liberty and equality, aspirations which become particularly alive in the best heroic period of the life and struggle of the working masses…”
